Towards a New Socio-Economic System: Inspirations and Perspectives

Oreste Bazzichi

Fabio Reali

Abstract

This essay introduces an alternative economic model known as EFCC (Franciscan Economy, Civil Economy, Economy of Communion), which brings together four ethical-economic traditions: the Franciscan economy, Genovesi’s civil economy, the Economy of Communion promoted by the Focolare Movement, and the Catholic Church’s social doctrine (DSC). Grounded in a theoretical reflection on shared principles such as the centrality of the person, reciprocity, trust, and social justice, the essay outlines a systemic proposal that bridges theory and practice. The EFCC-DSC model is structured around four operational domains (enterprise, finance, welfare, education) and is based on mechanisms already tested in specific historical and local contexts. The essay concludes with a critical comparison between EFCC-DSC and other contemporary alternative economic models, highlighting both convergences and divergences.
